What Is a Sitter Milestone Session?
The sitter milestone usually happens when babies are around 6–8 months old. Most babies start to sit with minimal support around 6 months and can sit confidently on their own by 7 or 8 months.
This is one of the most adorable stages to photograph — babies are full of personality, love to smile, and are curious about everything around them. Their bright eyes, chubby cheeks, and giggles make every photo feel so alive.
1. Choose the Right Time
Sitter-age babies still need two naps a day, so timing is everything! Schedule your milestone photography session when your baby is most alert and happy — ideally right after a nap and a full feeding.
2. Keep the Session Relaxed
For my full milestone sessions, I never rush through the process. I focus on creating a calm and enjoyable experience for both baby and family. We move at a comfortable pace to ensure we capture beautiful photos in every setup and outfit — without tiring out your little one.
3. Outfit Recommendations
I recommend 2–3 outfits for milestone sessions. This gives a nice variety of looks while keeping the baby comfortable. I also love including family photos in every session — because these milestones aren’t just about your baby’s growth, but also about the love that surrounds them.
Why Family Photos Are So Important
I always tell parents — baby milestones are family milestones too. Every laugh, every cuddle, and every shared moment helps tell your family’s story. Including parents and siblings adds emotion and context to your images.
In a recent sitter session, our little brother was full of joy! We started with solo portraits, then moved into family photos with his 4-year-old big brother. Like many young kids, his attention span was short — but that’s okay! I always make the session fun with games and interactions to keep everyone engaged.
And when your baby gets a bit tired toward the end (or even sheds a few tears), don’t worry — those moments are part of their real first-year memories too. Sometimes, those emotional shots end up being family favorites.
